Careers

At Batley Grammar School, we believe that high quality careers education is fundamental to our learners' personal development, academic progress and future success. Our careers programme is designed to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and ensure that every learner is equipped with knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed choices about their next steps.
We are committed to providing meaningful encounters with employers, further and higher education providers, and a wide range of vocational pathways. This also includes impartial information about a full range of educational and training options that are available to learners. Through personalised guidance, engaging curriculum links and real world experiences, as well as assemblies, workshops and careers events, we may help learners understand the opportunities available to them and support them in planning a future that reflects their ambitions and strengths.
We heavily invest in the future careers of our young people and offer support and guidance throughout their time here. Learners have access to a well-resourced school careers library, which is available before school, during break and lunchtime as well as ICT facilities with a variety of careers packages.
Key employment sectors in the region are; Construction, Creative, Digital, Health and Manufacturing & Engineering. More information on sectors and skills can be found on FutureGoals.
The careers team is here to support our learners and parents/carers, in making the right career choices. This support is also available to our young people on learning pathways evenings and on GCSE results days.
C+K Careers
Sureiya Koffi is our C+K Careers Advisor and is available in school every Thursday to offer advice and guidance to all learners to enable them to make effective decisions about their future. She also attends most parent/carer evenings from Year 8, and no appointment is needed for those sessions.
Individual careers appointments can be arranged for learners to discuss things such as; GCSE subject options as well as post-16 and post-18 options.
Appointments are arranged via email and parents/carers are also welcome to attend attend appointments.
Work experience
Year 10 learners are offered bespoke work experience in the spring term. They are provided with an opportunity to prepare for their choice of work experience, from a range of placements. They also complete an evaluation of their experience and consider how this shapes their career journey.
Enterprise Advisor Partnership
We are pleased to work with the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (the LEP). Through this connection, which partners careers teams in schools with local senior business leaders, we have been partnered with Turner & Townsend - a global professional services company with over 10,000 people in 48 countries.
